Cinnamon Apple Porridge
Porridge is one of our go-to breakfasts, but sometimes it can get boring with the same-old toppings, so why not spice it up with some cooked apples and cinnamon! This time, after our trip to Nagano to visit a friend, her family kindly gave us some of their homegrown apples! They’re a little tarter than red apples, but still sweet and very crunchy. But don’t worry, just use your favourite kind of apple and it will turn out just as delicious.
Ingredients
Porridge
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup oat milk or alt. milk of choice
- 1 cup water
- 2 tsp chia seeds
Cinnamon Apple
- 1 apple chopped
- 1 tsp cinnamon more to taste
- Olive oil or coconut oil
- p.s reserve some apple scices to use as fresh topping
Extra toppings
- Chopped walnuts
- Fresh apple slices
Instructions
Porridge
- Put all ingredients into a pot
- Cook at a simmer for about 5 minutes until at the desired consistency (smaller rolled oats will cook faster)
- Serve into a bowl
Cinnamon Apple
- Add oil into pan on medium-high heat, then add apples and cinnamon
- Cook on medium heat for 2-3 min whilst stirring
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook covered for 5-10 min, stirring occasionally to make sure it doesn’t burn. When the apple is soft it is ready.
- Top porridge with cooked apple and desired extra toppings and enjoy!
